The 1940 Atlantic hurricane season was an ongoing event in the annual cycle of tropical cyclone formation. It officially began on June 1, 1940 and ended on November 30, 1940.
The 1940 season began interestingly: a tropical storm formed and existed entirely during the month of May. Also, a Category 1 hurricane moved across north Florida as a tropical storm and struck the north Texas coast. Another Category 1 made landfall near Savannah, Georgia. A tropical storm struck the New Brunswick coast and a weak hurricane grazed Nova Scotia. A long-lived tropical storm struck Central America, Mexico, and the coasts of Texas and Louisiana.
