Bachelor of Science

(Redirected from Bachelor of science)

A Bachelor of Science (B.S., B.Sc. or less commonly, S.B. or Sc.B.) is an undergraduate academic degree awarded for courses taken that generally last three years in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Quebec, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa or four years in the rest of North America and Scotland.

In North America, a Bachelor of Science degree usually requires a student to take a majority of their courses (usually ½ or ¾) in the sciences, namely life sciences, physical sciences, or the mathematical sciences. Most universities plan the Science Bachelor degree as a liberal arts course schedule.

In the UK, which subjects are considered science subjects varies, e.g. economics degrees may be B.A. in one university but B.Sc. in another.

A Bachelor of Science receives the designation B.Sc. or B.S. for a major/pass degree and B.Sc. (Hons) or B.S.(Hon) for an honours degree.
