The Baguirmi Empire or Bagirmi Empire was an empire that existed in the 16th and 17th centuries in what is now Chad. It was conquered by the Ouaddai Empire . The language of the empire, Baguirmi, is still spoken today, with 44,761 speakers as of 1993, primarily in the Chari Baguirmi prefecture.
