Gamma Corvi

(Redirected from Gienah in Corvus)

Gamma Corvi (γ Crv / γ Corvi) is a star in the constellation Corvus. Its traditional name is Gienah, however Epsilon Cygni has an identical traditional name.

"Gienah", or "Gienah Ghurab", derives from Arabic, from Ulug Beg's الجناح الغراب اليمن al-janāħ al-ghirāb al-yaman, meaning "the right wing of the crow", although on modern charts it marks the left wing. The star should probably be called "Gienah Corvi" (Gienah Crv) to distinguish it from the Gienah Cygni.
