A Head of the River race is a rowing race, held as a procession race against the clock, with the winning crew receiving the title of Head of the River.
Although most such races include the name of the local river or region in the title, such as the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Massachusetts, some races worldwide are locally referred to as Head of the River without an attached river name. Most notably is the Head of the River Race, a competition for eights held on the River Thames in London, UK in March of each year.
