Eritrea is divided into 6 regions (capitals follow Tigrinya names in parentheses):

• Central (Maekel) (Asmara)
• Anseba (Keren )
• Southern Red Sea (Debub-Keih-Bahri) (Assab)
• Northern Red Sea (Semien-Keih-Bahri) (Massawa)
• Southern (Debub) (Mendeferas )
• Gash-Barka (Barentu )
