Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles covers the City of Los Angeles as well as Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, California. With about five million Catholics in the diocese's jurisdiction, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is the largest diocese in the United States.

The Archbishop of Los Angeles is also the Metropolitan bishop of the Los Angeles Province. The suffragan dioceses of the province include Fresno , Monterey in California , Orange in California , San Bernardino , and San Diego .

The Diocese of Los Angeles-San Diego was established on June 1, 1922, and was split into the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the Diocese of San Diego on July 11, 1936.

Cathedral

The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels was dedicated on September 2, 2002. It replaces The Cathedral of St. Vibiana, a relatively small church built in 1876 that was severely damaged in the 1994 Northridge earthquake.
